Tap Dance Shoes

Tap dance shoes often have the same appearance as a regular closed toed dancing shoe; however, there is one major distinction, the metal plate attached to the bottom of the sole. This is the distinguishing factor between a regular dance footwear and tap footwear.

Tap dance shoes make their tapping noise when the metal plates on the soles of the shoes touch the ground. Dancers may opt to go with a shoe that has a heel if they are performing in a musical setting, as this is a common practice. Broadway tapping is generally the genre that is taught to beginners as it is the most mainstream.

Tap dance shoes assist in the dancer performing different moves. Some of the most common steps are the shuffle, flap, stop, and single and double toe punches, each of which creates a different sound. Tap footwear can be purchased according to sound, depending on the number of screw in the in the metal, the tapping will vary. The sound and feel of a shoe is based off of personal preference.
