Dance Shoes

Dance shoes are an accessory used by dancers primarily to protect their feet. Dancers regardless of their genre need to offer their feet protection from either the floor, other dancers, or for support during certain positions. Without proper support and cushion, the feet can become sore or injured.

Specific dance shoes are necessary for Pointe ballet. Pointe shoes are made with a box tip, used to support the toes and provide a flat platform for the toes to be elevated to. They are also have what is known as a shank for arch support. This is a shoe that is an absolute necessity when dancing en Pointe.

Dance shoes are also needed for tapping. Tap shoes have the appearance of a regular shoe; however, they have a symbol like tap attached to the bottom of the sole, used to make a tapping noise. Just about any other dance will require or recommend wearing some type of foot covering as a caution.
